AAWC 2017 Board of Directors election results 

The AAWC congratulates the newly elected, re-elected, and appointed members of the AAWC Board of Directors. All board members officially took office on April 7 at the AAWC Membership Meeting held during SAWC Spring in San Diego, CA.

Newly elected board members will serve a 2-year term from 2017–2019 and include:

The AAWC thanks each candidate who ran for a seat on the 2017 AAWC Board of Directors for your support and interest in the AAWC. To each member who cast a vote, thank you for your assistance in determining the leadership of the AAWC. 

The organization needs strong, committed, diversified leadership and membership participation to continue to grow. 2017 AAWC Distinguished Member announced 

The AAWC is proud to announce Linda Cowan, PhD, ARNP, FNP-BC, CWS was named the 2017 Distinguished Member. A member since 2006 and a second-term Research Board Member (2015-2017), Linda has contributed to the Association by serving as Chair of the Research Task Force, Co-chair of the International Consolidated Pressure Ulcer Guidelines Team (ICPUG), and a volunteer on the Scholarship Committee. During her tenure as Research Taskforce chair, the team has grown in numbers and commitment, playing a key role in the wound research poster critiques for AAWC Poster Grand Rounds. 

Linda took on a new project to provide clinical research education on the AAWC website. The team has successfully worked together to survey members and has taken steps to provide that education. As the presenter of the AAWC Poster Grand Rounds at SAWC Spring and SAWC Fall, she has had the opportunity to share her knowledge about successful posters. Linda was presented the award at the AAWC Membership meeting during SAWC Spring.

Special Service Excellence Award for 2017

C. Tod Brindle, MSN, RN, CWOCN, second-term Nurse Board Member (2014-2016), was recognized at the AAWC Membership meeting during SAWC Spring with the Service Excellence Award. This special award for 2017 was given to Tod for his efforts as Chair of the Scholarship Committee and the Liaison to the National Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel (NPUAP). As the NPUAP Liaison, Tod provided invaluable support to the AAWC in regards to the terminology and staging changes over the past year.

New AAWC brochure released at SAWC Spring

The AAWC Public Awareness Task Force debuted the new AAWC Brochure, Defend Your Diabetic Feet, at SAWC Spring. This patient education brochure provides ideas to stay one step ahead of a diabetic foot ulcer. The full AAWC educational brochure series is available at no cost under “Patient/Caregiver Resources” at www.aawconline.org The brochures can be printed and distributed without cost or permission if used for educational purposes. You can avoid printing and assembling these by purchasing quality reprints from the AAWC Store.
