  It is with great sorrow that Healogics (Jacksonville, FL) announces the death of long-time chief medical officer, Dr. Robert A. Warriner, III, MD, ABPM/UHM, FACA, FCCP, FCCWS. Warriner passed away in Houston, Texas on Thursday, August 2, at the age of 62 after an extended illness.

  Warriner’s distinguished medical career spanned over three decades. A graduate of Tulane University and Vanderbilt Medical School, Warriner spent many years in the United States Air Force until he was honorably discharged in 1984 with the rank of Major. He received the Air Force Commendation Medical and Presidential Unit Citation Awards.

  Originally an anesthesiologist and critical care physician, Warriner was introduced to hyperbaric medicine while on active duty in the Air Force. In 1990, he became the medical director of the Southeast Texas Center for Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine, which saw over 4,000 new patients in 13 years. In 2003, Dr. Warriner became chief medical officer for Praxis Clinical Services, which later became Diversified Clinical Services and is now Healogics.

  Dr. Warriner educated physicians and clinicians about hyperbaric oxygen therapy as well as developed the clinical practice guidelines necessary to heal chronic wounds. Warriner authored over 50 publications related to wound care and hyperbaric medicine. In 2008, he received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the World Union of Wound Healing Societies. The next year, Warriner was awarded the Sharon Branoski Founder’s Award, which recognized him as an expert in wound care treatment and disease management. Warriner was the recipient of many awards from the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society for contributions to advancing the field of clinical hyperbaric medicine.

   “Dr. Warriner’s contributions to the field of wound care and hyperbaric medicine are significant – as a researcher, teacher, leader and care provider. Dr. Warriner served as Chief Medical Officer of the company since 2003,” said Healogics CEO Jeffrey Nelson. “His dedication and commitment has been an integral part of our success and growth. He will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of working with him.” Warriner is remembered fondly by friends, family and colleagues as a passionate physician who loved what he did; healing wounds and changing lives.
