I have a colostomy, about 1" opening, and for 8 years I had no problem with my pouches. Then for 3 or 4 months I can't seem to have a bag on for more than a day, and there is leakage. What is deep convexity and should I have different kind of pouches that have a deep convexity? Would that help? Thank you.

Regarding certification in wound specialization, you may want to also consider sitting for the CWS exam. Unlike the other two exams you mentioned, the CWS exam items are written by multidisciplinary wound specialists including nurses, MDs, PTs, DPMs, RDs and other health care professionals. The exam items are based on research evidence and is representative of the knowledge and experiences of professionals that make up a patient centered wound care team.

Reply to this comment »If you don't have a bachelor's degree, it really doesn't matter. You'll never learn everything you need to know from a certification class. If you want good pay and respect, go with the CWCN. I have a WCC. Have been for 10 years. I'm an ADN nurse . I can't go back to school for a BSN. I am an excellent wound care specialist, but the initials after my name don't make it so. I make it so. The CWCN provides you with implied respect that the WCC doesn't give you. I have earned my respect -- fine by me.
