Can You Help?

My wife has a chronic sinus leading to a site where her leg was broken during surgery, leading to the loss of a small part of the bone and thus exposing the prosthesis in her leg, which is now colonised with MRSA and other bugs. The wound is dressed using Mepilex Border dressings and a small strip is inserted in the sinus to ensure it stays open for drainage. Several debridements have not helped for long.

The wound is often very smelly, causing distress to my wife and more particularly my daughter when she visits. My wife is highly allergic to Iodine and has only 15% kidney function resulting in limited use of antibiotics. Any suggestions?

What is this "small strip" being used? What have you tried? Is the prosthesis you are describing ortho hardware? How does she do with silver products?

You have to rule out chronic osteomielytis. Once a prothesis is infected you should remove it due to the biofilms on it. A surgical approach is recommended.
