Eradicating devices associated MRSA infections is a tall order and an impressive claim if it indeed works. I was so intrigued that I Googled the patent number and found http://www.patentgenius.com/patent/7772296.html (though I could also have gone directly to uspto.gov and search for the patent directly!) and was impressed by what I found. Of course, materials impregnated with an active drug such as the silver laced dressing we use every day and the eluting stents for cardiac vessels that have received so much coverage in the medical literature and lay press are still a topic of great disagreement among many in medicine. The final word – are they great advances or simply clever marketing? Well, this is still to be determined by retrospectoscopy. So, the folks at www.advbiomaterials.com the holders of the patent, (symbol ASB) are selling for 30¢ per share at the time of this writing. Down from a peak of over $6 a share in 2004 (http://www.google.com/finance?client=ob&q=AMEX:ASB ) their patent, if translatable into products that really work may help your patients and fund your retirement account if you buy in. Or not. Stay tuned.
